Prof. K. Zhdanov is the Chief of the Department of Infectious Diseases of Military Medical Academy, Saint Petersburg, Russia, and Chief Infectious Diseases Specialist of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
After graduation from the Army department of Military Medical Academy in 1991 he served at the Department of Infectious Diseases, successively holding all major positions including, Associate Professor, Deputy Chief of the Department on clinical work, and since 2009 – Chief of the Department. Chief Infectious Diseases Specialist of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. In 1994 he defended his first thesis (PhD) on “Disorders of the functional state and workability among young people with HIV infection.” then in 2000, his second thesis “The latent forms of viral hepatitis B and C in young people.” In 2004 he received his professor’s title. He is a recognized expert on hepatology both in Russia and abroad. Professor Zhdanov possesses experience in providing medical care in mass outbreaks of infectious diseases in combat (Chechnya, 1995, South Ossetia, 2008). He is an author of over 300 publications, member of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID), European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).
